I'm looking for CLEAN books for a 15 year-old girl - mysteries, romances, adventure, humor, anything. I'm having trouble finding current books written for teens that aren't trashy. She enjoys the "Mates, Dates" series by Cathy Hopkins and the "Traveling Pants" series by Ann Brashares.

Around my house, there's books everywhere and I have girls that are 15, 17, and 19 that don't appreciate trash at all! If she enjoys fantasy at all, Tamora Pierce is a fantastic choice! She writes books with young women as the heroine's taking on traditionally masculine roles. I've enjoyed her books, my daughters enjoyed her books, and then my husband started reading them. I think we have almost every series she has written now, and I feel safe suggesting them to anyone. That is one author I know you can't go wrong with, but I can give many more suggestions...

The "Ember" series - starting with the book called Ember

Inkheart and Inkspell are by Cornelia Funke, who has written a number of books, but those are the only ones I've read.

The Septimus Heap series

There's a mystery/adventure series that has a book titles "Stormbreaker" in it. We have read all those.

Then there are the classics:
Nancy Drew mysteries
Anne of Green Gables
Little House on the Prairie
Little Women/Little Men

There's always plenty of good, clean reading material out there. One good source is usually the librarian, depending on how well read they are in what they have on their shelves

Good luck!

Girls that age like Nicholas Sparks books (Message in a Bottle, The Notebook et al). Also, many of his have been turned into movies so after she is done with the book she can watch the adapted version. Also, Jane Austen is a good choice for a teenage girl, a little bit on the older side but the themes transcend time and have been turned into movies as well. The Great Gatsby is a good one as well but might be a little too advanced for a 15 year old.

The Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld (Uglies, Pretties, Specials). It is in the science fiction/fantasy range--it is a dystopic novel. A society that looks great from the outside, but has some flaws and secrets for the characters to discover. Tally is fifteen and three months away from her sixteenth birthday when the book begins.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is a great book. Bella is a young teen who moves to a new town to live with her father after a remarriage. She meets some very interesting people at her new school including Edward whom she falls in love with. (Nothing trashy happens between them though.)

Two books by Catherine Marshall that she might enjoy are Julie and Christy. I know Christy has been made into a movie/ tv show several times. But both books are good historical fiction.

I also enjoy books by Sarah Dessen. I love The Truth About Forever (2004). It is such a great book. It has been two years since I read it but it is about a young teen girl dealing with her father's death, and learning to live her own life and redefine herself.

The Harry Potter series are great. I started reading them with my son when they first came out. They are just as enjoyable for adults as children. My step brother is 57 and has bought and read them all on my word as well.
Another good book series is the Little House series. They may be just a little young for your daughter though. Little Women is still a good read Hope this helps.

King Fortis the Brave - it has some very strong female characters in Aimee and Gillain (as well as Haeron, the villain of the story). It's a quick read, and there is nothing appropriate in there. Not so much as a single cuss word. She'll love it.

The Bean Trees, Pigs in Heaven and Animal Dreams by Barbra Kingsolver
I read them all at about that age and couldn't put them down.

"Mrs. Mike," about a girl who marries a Canadian mountie in the far north. A classic story.

"A Wrinkle in Time"--fantasy / family values (children have to find their missing father)

Not too current, but both good and clean as a whistle
