HEY, I GOT NEWS FOR YOU, I HAVE A MASTERS DEGREE & I CAN"T WORK MOST IRRIGATION CONTROLLERS EITHER! But I have a system that makes it all better. I'm a sucker for seniors & they know it. I drop everything & run whenever some senior from my church or neighborhood calls for garden help. As a result I have a pool of "silver knights" I can call on for help. Whenever a new irrigation clock hits the market I take it to my seniors to test it. We'll sit around the kitchen table & pass the clock around. Everyone will try to set up a simple irrigation schedule from the instructions that came with the clock. I'll read off a time and a schedule for a four valve system & see how they do? Then I have them give the clock a grade, A, B, C, D, F. I have already checked them for quality. Any clock that gets an average grade below a B is dumped. When a group of my seniors have an easy time with a clock, I feel safe in recomending it to others. My system has never failed since I started it 15 years ago.
Right now as far as quality & ease of operation, the top choice by my seniors is the "TOTAL CONTROL" by Hardy Irrigation. It comes in a 6, 9, and 12 station model. A real cool feature is the way it can be installed and removed from it's case like unplugging a radio for an outlet. If it ever needsa repair, no wires to mess with. Pop out the unit & drop it off at the shop easy as pie. Instead of messing around in the cold garage, you can take it inside & program it on the kitchen table. Get it set the way you want & take it back to the garage & just plug it in. One large dial, & 3 easy buttons, ON, OFF & NEXT. It is so easy my 5 year old son can set up our 9 station in under 3 minutes. No Masters Degree required.
You can find the "TOTAL CONTROL" at any landscape or irrigation supply company. Check your yellow pages. Hunter also puts out some of the best, fully adjustable sprinkler heads on the market. Professional grade for about the same price you will pay for the homeowner grade at the depots & home centers. Plus a full year no questions asked warranty. A year from now your dog bites the top off or you run it over with the mower, you get a new head free. You won't get that from a home center.

I used to get so mad at my time clock that 'd smash them silly with a hammer. Then a friend showed me his. I was really easy to use so I got one and am a wiz kid with it. But you can't get one ata retail store, only at an irrig supply house. It's called the HR 6100 by Hardy Irrigation.

there are thousands of modles of timers for irrigation. Your best bet is to look at them your self and talk to the sales person on how to operate. What is easy for me may not be easy for you
