Recently some of the lower class tabloids (the Sun mostly) seem to have contained alot of coverage that is anti-English or anti-Scottish (depending on which version of the paper you buy)
There have been a couple of isolated racist incidents which have been blown out of proportion in the media. So what i want to know is, When you read about this stuff, do you actually believe everthing it says? or do you just dismiss it as the sh*t stirring that i think it is?
I would also like to hear about what people from both sides of the border really think about each other!

Actually i don't read those tabloids, other newspapers have discussed it due to concerns about the hatred they are inciting and i would thank you to answer the question instead of just making snide remarks!

I was in a bar in Glasgow not long ago watching Englands world cup game against Paraguay. Even though the majority of the people were scottish I noticed that most people were wanting England to win. Most Scottish people dont have a problem with the English. There are still a few racist people out their but the tabloids do tend to exaggerate.

I'm Scottish and I think the whole anti-English thing is ridiculous. Scotland benefits a lot more from being part of England than England benefits from having Scotland tied to its top. People will immediately shout OIL. Fine. But the oil will run out. Who helps us after that and who helped us before it was found. Also, the oil that comes from the North Sea is very expensive to get at and as such could never be a revenue generator to the extent it is in the middle east or southern US where it is comparatively easy to get at. I find it embarrassing when I hear serious and unsubstantiated anti-English views being spouted by Scots.
That said, I also think the impression that Scotland is full of anti English sentiment is completely wrong. There is some tounge in cheek stuff around the football and you get the occasional idiot as you do everywhere else, but on the whole we're a pretty reasonable bunch who quite like you.
Football however is a subject all unto itself. I wish you'd made the semi finals or the final because once you go out of competitions as you always and inevitibly do, they become boring for those of us whose team is even worse than yours. I'd never have wanted you to win it though. Having to listen to that for the next 40 years like we have the last 40 would be too much to bear.
The problem on the football is that you lot think its your God given right to win every competition you enter because you carry a bizarre belief that you own the game and are its most important contributor. You are actually surprised every time you crash out of a competition and blame every factor you can other than your own ineptitude for your departure. Becham's sending off was the last one. Rooney's sending off this time. Both correct decisions but you conveniently overlook that part of it and try to blame the guy Beckham kicked or on this occasion its Ronaldo who will be made scapegoat.
The fact of the matter is you're pish as has been evidenced in every major competition since 1966. The funniest part of it all is that you should actually be really good given the size of your population, league quality and general interest across the population. But you're not. You're pish. How funny is that!
Try a little humility and you'll see a very quick softening of attitude from the North.

You are learning!
Have a look at Noam Chomsky's book "Media Control", which talks about the way the media is being used to shape people'sthoughts.
If you want to dig the dirt on the tabloid press, you can't get much better than John Pilger's "Hidden Agendsas". He looks at such events as the destruction of the Liverpool dockers, and the Hillsborough tragedy, where, unable to find a story worthy of Printing, the Mirror created it's own story.
Don't ever, even for one moment believe that a single story you read in a newspaper is the truth. Most of them have some foundation in truth, but since you can't work out which bit that is, it is better to use the whole lot to line the parrot's cage anyway!

Tabloids are great at sh*t stirring. I was born in Scotland but have an English mother and now live in England so i am faithful to both countries!
It's so boring listening to people criticising an entire nation just because of things that happened years ago before any of us were even born. We are all British, we should stop being petty and ignorant, stick together and face up to the more modern threats attacking our way of life today.

I am a mongrel (part English, part Irish, part Scots and part Welsh) living in Scotland but having lived in England and in Wales (as well as other places on the globe).
I find the whole racist thing distasteful - every one is an individual, There are good people and bad people everywhere. Are we really looking to split the UK back into seperate little countries?
The worst anti-English abuse I had was in Wales when I had "English pig go home" painted on the door of my new home as a "moving in" present. Later that day I asked in the village shop and in the local pub (in Welsh as I am a Welsh speaker) if anyone had known my great-grandfather who had been born in that village.... I didn't get any more abuse but it was not a nice start to village life.

I feel that there is a campaign of media manipulation going on to foment ill-feeling between the countries that make up Great Britain. To facilitate further devolution? Scottish Independance? I am Scottish of Italian descent and support England at football as long as they are not playing Scotland or Italy.

Well the Scots definitely hate us English and yes a 7 year old boy was beaten up by a brave Scotsman for wearing an England shirt but most English people will support the Scots Welsh and Irish in sports. But after that not me anymore..

Well, I don't read papers like that. I'd be too embarrassed to take them to the counter! I do agree, the media stirs things up.
I used to share a house with a Scottish guy. We have always been great friends. We have always had a bit of anti English/anti Scottish banter and we have a good laugh with it. Great fun indeed!

I am Scots. If the World Cup was not on then the story would never have arisen. We could do with a bit of growing up on both sides and if we Scots are annoyed at English football pundits then why don't we get our own commentators and panelists to discuss games?

football is football the rivalry between domestic teams centres on geographical location this also works on an international level
I am English and the occasional tongue in cheek jibe I throw at my Scottish pals is returned likewise but racial hatred? There will be bigots out there but they will be an exception and therefore worthy of a news story in an esteemed publication such as the sun
