Communism is responsible for its own demise. State-controlled production causes artificial shortages, especially of consumer goods. Corruption usually sets in as the leaders and the rich manage to get these consumer goods from outside the country, but the middle class and poor people cannot.

You will notice that the only communist country that is prospering on all social and economic levels is China, which is letting a form of free-market economic development operate openly.

The United States has only recently moved towards an unfettered free-market. with no accountability for fraud, theft and greed, as long as it is on a big enough scale.
