If vitamin C is the big news in skincare today, why not mix it with water and rinse my skin with that water? What is the mystery of spending a fortune on Vitamin C for the skin? Cellex C is one brand, Perricone drops some in and countless big ticket products are using it. I mean $100 or more price tag items are using Vit C.

Vitamin C in the form found in most skin creams has no effect on the skin because it is broken down too quickly by the oxygen in the air and cannot penetrate the epidermis very easily. It is added to skin creams mainly as a marketing gimmick, but it also has an antioxidant effect *on the cream* and so stops it going off.

The same applies to vitamin C in tablet or powder form - if you dissolved it in water and rinsed your skin with it, the air would break it down too quickly to be of use.
