In amateur wrestling, weight classes are every 6 pounds.
A weight class is listed every 6 pounds being the heaviest for the class, as an example you are wrestling in the 171 class, if you cannot make weight 1 hour before weight registration, you either forfiet or you wrestle in the class above.
In amatuer wrestling, you know your class long before a meet and if you cannot make weight you don't wrestle as there is probably already someone in the class above.
At a meet that starts at 9 am, weigh ins are at 8. if you do not make weight you have 30 mins. to cut weight or you are disqualified.

i would suggest gaining muscle because if you lose weight you might lose 4 pounds of fat and .5 pounds for muscle im a female wrestler (freshman) my self and i used to to bench 150 no problem and i started at 135s but then i dropped down to 119s and i can barely bench 115 so i would go for muscle

The weight classes work for nothing.
If it works how Rey Mysterio can become World Heavyweight Champion.
