The simple answer is that we've bred a society of "diversity-first" thinkers who prefer to see isolated groups of people standing together in close proximity with others versus one big cluster of people with a common culture. We've wasted so much time trying to preserve our individual heritages that we've just replicated the tribal mindset of the ancient world. When we could step back and point out the bigots and condemn them for their isolationist ideals, the races were joined for a common cause. Now, however, it's become politically correct to endorse "multi-culturalism," so bigotry is allowed (ie. "My heritage is better than a collective culture with other races.").

As an added negative impact, this tribe-think has created tension (especially between black and white America) and I think we're starting to see a resurgence of the bigotted minds of old, born out of annoyance.

Want to take a chunk out of racism? Stop valuing race. Instead of promoting "multi-culturalism," promote American culture. Facets of each culture will necessarily mesh and create a whole new type of culture that defies superficial boundaries like race.

I don't think that they are necessarily going backwards. We aren't back to just land owning white males being the only ones to vote are we?

I think that the majority of racial friction that still exists and manifests itself in our society is the result of old farts holding on to what they grew up believing. You see, the politicians and the wealthy just view everybody not at their level to be lesser people. Due to the actions of the first wealthy white men, a government has been setup to keep them at the top. The same goes in media industry. It's all the old execs for news media companies that think Racism incidents should plastered across the newspapers and television. It's not big news. It's keeping the Racism alive is what it's doing.

Because it is human nature to remain with what is familiar. If we grew up in a multicultural family, or area, then those people tend to feel more comfortable with other races. I am native american and white. I am mistaken for being hispanic all the time. The biggest key, I think, is forgiving ignorance. I am alo a christian, and Christ died for ALL people, not just the whites or the blacks or the jews (Jesus was a jew, ya know, and obviously not the fair-skinned blond we see all the time in pictures), so if I beleive that, then how can I discriminate against anyone?

i do no longer agree that maximum white human beings are closet racists. I grew up (in the course of the 50's and 60's) in a white loved ones the position i ought to get my mouth washed out with a large bar of nasty tasting cleansing soap for keeping the N-word. i have watched my circle of friends clean up their act to the point the position telling a race shaggy dog tale (any race shaggy dog tale) at a white party quantities to social suicide. White individuals fairly have better. What fairly yanks my chain now's black racism. Do black individuals have even the slightest theory how hurtful the N-word is even as black comedians and rappers use it? If African-human beings do not clean up their very personal act extremely quickly, i'm afraid there is going to an impressive backlash. Many strong good white individuals already received't enable rap song of their properties simply by foul language and they are by no potential happy with the dislike-filled message maximum rappers spew. I worry that, if good black individuals won't be able to administration the worst aspects of their very personal black subculture, the total us of a will be dragged decrease back into the social evils of the previous. That Imus became fired might want to tutor the ball is now contained in the black court docket.

I don't think they are going backwards, but they certainly aren't moving forward either. I think there is always going to be prejudice in the world. After all, it is a taught behavior. For example the middle east. There are people there who hate us becuse we are Americans and vice versa. We certainly don't come into the world hating others because of who they are. I think sometimes somone in another race, religion, may pick on someone and if it isn't resolved that person will grow to dislike that person and tend to blame what or who they are, and not the individual. We just have to strive harder to love on another for who we are and not where we come from, what religion we practice or the color of our skin.

doubt they are going backwards. Wasn't so long ago that certain races in the USA had to sit in the back of the bus, use different bathrooms, etc. Are their racists in the world, yes, but hardly think its going backwards. I think you hear about more of the bad people than what the non-racist people do on a daily basis.

NO they most certainly are not. In fact, I believe that the black citizens of this country are the best treated. In ONE day I saw 4 situations where the a black person and a white person collided with each other, whether it be fighting for a parking space of the white man not holding the door for the black man, etc)...but in ALL situations, the white person ALWAYS humbly apologized while the black person ALWAYS said something the the extent of, "That's right, you better apologize, muthaf*ka" Hello? You want people to stop being racist? Grow up and show us that you're worth the time! And stop asking stupid questions to entertain your pity party!! We don't pity you!!

No, they are NOT! The American Left who are the real racists are trying to divide the country on the basis of race, gender and ethnicity. The American Left is telling black Americans their problems are the result of slights perpetrated by others, when in reality the American black culture has a seriously dis functional streak in it and it is that dis functionality that is "keeping them down".

A person EARNS his/her place in society. The American Left feels certain people are entitled to places in society. Why does the American Left feel that black Americans are incapable of EARNING jobs, earning places in school? That's rather racist, right?

I think because of media exposure.

When some reporter says "welfare queen", what image comes to mind?

When you hear the phrase "gang banger", what do you see?

These almost seem to be shorthand terms to denigrate a race that is not white, even though white people can be that.

Because African-Americans need to stop acting like we are the only ones who have been hurt by America. People of color need to unite and stop attacking other ethnicities.
