For caged animals, I would suggest a Hamster, Gerbils or Rats. It depends on how much you have to spend on the pet. Rats require a lot more space and are prone to Respiratory Infections and Cancer, so vet care is often required at some point in their lives. They do make awesome pets and are very personable, but unfortunately their lifespan is only 2-3 years.
Gerbils and Hamsters tend to be hardier, I've had 7 gerbils and 5 hamsters, all lived to be 3-5 years old with no health problems. Their caging is also cheaper and more easily acquired.

You could also look into Degus, they tend to be hardier as well and are bigger then a hamster. They can be tamed and will come to the door to be picked up and fed treats.
Ferrets require large cages, lots of attention and are prone to certain kinds of illnesses. They need to be taken to the vet for checkups and shots. They are wonderful if you have the time and money, their antics are always interesting!
As always, research, research, and research some more! :)

I would suggest a rat. They are smart and loving, kind of different and do not mind being held. They are not expensive to get, the price for a cage is reasonable and not too hard to keep as far as nutrition and care goes. You can teach them tricks too.
Do not get a ferret if you like to get an animal you can keep in it's cage a lot or one that likes to be held. Ferrets are fun, but most of them do not like being held. Ferrets will usually run up quite the vet bill as they get older.
I think rats are cute, they have all kinds of different color patterns.
Check out www.petfinder.com. You can go and adopt one, that way you'll be doing a good thing for animals everywhere, you'll be supporting a shelter AND usually they are lots cheaper there then anywhere else. Think about it, and good luck.
PS: Ferrets are rodent hunters, so the chance that your rat will get along with your bunnies is better than your ferret getting along with them.

How about a ferret?
The only question is, was the reason you can not have a dog or cat due to allergies? If someone is allergic to cats, then they might also be allergic to ferrets.
The next options would be an iguana, a guinea pig, or fish.
If you decide on getting a bird, you will have to decide if you want one to train outside - like a small hawk - or one for inside, like a parrot or lovebirds.

if your looking for somthing to go into a barn you could get pygmy goats, i have heard there just like dogs and they can be really tame, you can also have a bond with where alot of caged animals dont, also horses make good pets they do cost alot but they are really fun to be around and have. Hamsters can be a good pets if you are that kinda person they can get boreing but if you try u can have fun with them

For a cage I would suggest a rat. They make better pets then other rodents if you get them young and handle them alot.

A chicken. You can keep it in a cage, or keep it outside. you can also hold and pet it. If you sign up for 4H, you can show them at many places.

Get a python, or a boa. That way if it gets hungry you already have the bunnies to feed it.

Get a snake, they are easy to care for and most have good temperments. Careful tho, they are escape artists.
