I know we cant leave history behind, but bring it with us and leave the hatered just that(history) I can't change it and neither can neone else. Carry on the history thet slaves were sold, beaten, hung, and in the end freed so smile, hold your head up high and love all people, pink, purple, white or black. We all bleed the same color if you wound us. And to all racist that say "Man they should still be in our kitchen" Grow up, and get off your lazy *** and do it yourself. And as for the N word, anyone can be a N so dont classify it as one race. Peace, Love, Happiness lol, lets all love one another and get along.

The old slavery has nothing to do with people living now. Most of the people who try and say it does should consider what they are opening up. If someone now should pay for their ancestors possibly being involved in slavery (something that was not an offence at the time) What about events in their families history?
Piracy, mugging, theft and all sorts of crimes were rife in those days and most people alive today would have some trace of it in their background. Should they pay for that? I do not think so.

The past should be the past and people should stop trying to hide behind it and live in the present.

But as someone has pointed out slavery still exists in the modern world. Girls from eastern Europe and many other countries are brought to the west under false pretences and then held against their will and forced into prostitution. Slavery is also rife in a lot of African countries. Funnily enough a lot of them are ones that keep on about the old slave trade!

If only everyone would acknowledge the old slave history and move on to live in the modern world perhaps something could be done to stop modern slavery.

I think I found a question in there somewhere which was "What does our generation have to do with slavery?"

Not much. Some would argue that our generation still feels the effects of slavery, so those that were slave owners yeah we're all rich, but mostly those that are descendants of slaves, we've never recovered from it financially.

I think it isn't so much slavery that effects the desdendants of slaves, I think it's the racism that has effected them.

I think that most people today love all races, but there are some bad and ignorant people out there. Unfortunately their friends are too tolerant of their crappy attitutdes and don't put the smack down on them when they say something stupid.

Slavery was a horribly wrong occurrence that can't be changed today. We can't go back and "make it all go away". While I believe whole-heartily that it never should have occurred and only did so because white people (and yes, I am white) were too d*mned lazy to do their own work, I do not believe that I, as a white person today, owe anyone, anything, simply because my ancestors may or may not have owned slaves. Just as I would hope that any black person today wouldn't have to suffer from the same oppression their ancestors suffered from....and more importantly, don't feel the need to carry the hatred their ancestors were entitled to.

I think our generation has nothing to do with the times of slavery...I agree...people need to get over it and move on...you are also right about the N word....anyone can be one...it is in the dictionary and the definition of it does not have anything to do with black people or any other person of a different race. People just need to get with the times. The only thing slavery has to do with our generation is that now we are populated with people that are not just white which I believe is an awesome thing.....we all have a right to live anywhere we wanna!!

Our generation has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with slavery it's an african-americans cop-out to blame whites for everything. Do you know that most generations of african-americans today would'nt even exist if it had not been for the slave trade. If they had been left there back when slavery existed they would have died from famine and disease. Henceforth african-americans today would not have had the oppurtunity to be here today. All people are created EQUAL except in the eyes of the american blacks. You measure the man by the content of his character NOT by his skin-tone!

We must learn from the past and move forward. Slavery and colonisation by whites were terrible things. Africans lived on this continent for thousands of years without western aid. But were forced to leap frog into the 20th Century and incurred so much debt.

Well, slavery was hundreds of years ago, so ours has nothing directly to do with slavery.

Rasicm is wrong, as is the N word, but N is short for Negroe, so actualy only black people can be Ns.

Don't you think that the "minimum wage" is slavery, when the Chairman of the Board gets several million dollars for receiving an inherited position?

"Trash don't have no color." A wise saying that says it all. Actually, the first slaves were captured tribesmen sold to the Dutch by their enemies. So who's to blame? I would no more be a master than I would be a slave. Another wise saying. You cannot be a slave to history, either.
