In most of the villages of Old Europe, there is at least one pub, and at least one church, often across the street from each other. This is no accident. They serve the same function, and fulfill some basic human need for oblivion. My answer is no.

No. Religion, in some form, is fundamental and neccessary to humans. Humans need religion. Through evolution, humans have developed this need. Religion and the ability to think abstract are closely related. The ability to think in abstract manners is a great advantage in evolution an life... religion is a natural consequence of how our brains work... An other explanation could be that humans have always had experiences that contradicts common knowledge, logic and prior understanding. Examples are dreams, deep love, intoxication and maybe especially digestion of food containing lysergic acid. Lysergic acid comes from a parasitic fungus growing on barley. Is is extremely hallucinogen and induces religious experiences. Religion is a way to try to explain these "revelations", hence perfectly natural. Humans are religious by nature.

As long as it is the human condition to believe that there is something beyond our physical existance, then there will be those who try to play on those beliefs. I believe there is a profound difference between religion and spirituality. You can believe in something much larger than yourself without ascribing to a formalized religion. Spirituality is a much more personal concept and less tied to dogma. I would hope we could eventually evolve beyond the need for religion and its fables.

Probably not, it is contraversy. Just like different religions. Which is correct. In fact all are in their own right. If there werent differences what would we talk about? The differences is what makes the world go round, It keeps us talking about it. As long as religion is discussed the word is getting out

so you think we got enlightenment 400 years ago? 1606? what happened then?
religion has been around for a lot longer, it will never die because God LIVES and Jesus LIVES.
there must always be room for doubt in religion.. or it would require no faith.
