It makes that noise as the RPMs go up. Now it just crawls along and has trouble changing gears. Is it the alternator?

The lights work fine. A/C works fine. No dimming of any kind. Engine light came on last night. It will shift in another gear but it feels like it slips and stays in neutral. Does the transmission have a belt that could slip?

not enough info to really tell what it is. best guess would be that it is the altenator if the lights have also been dimming. if it's a newer car, everything runs by electronics, and if the voltage drops, nothing will work right. if the lights are still bright, you need to look for a different problem. If I knew what type of car and more details, I could help...edit your question and I'll check it on monday to edit my answer accordingly.

Check your transmission fluid immediately and then take it to a transmission repair facility. Your transmission is slipping. The whizzing sound you hear is the pump inside your transmission. The filter is stopped up with metal and the pump cant breathe. That sound is your transmission screaming out in pain. It's time for a rebuild.

Sounds like a vacuum leak-- some engine controllers (computers) go berserk when they get some out of the ordinary inputs causing the engine to misfire or worse.

pop the caps off the battery and look on the water element... it must be protecting the cells contained in the bettery, if no longer upload distilled water virtually to the accurate of each and every cellular. Then value the battery for some hours and he or she ought to start up top up. If it doesn't , you could bounce it off andcontinual for roughly 0.5-hour and see if which will value it, if no longer, may besides get a sparkling battery.

UHH, I don"t agree with Duffman. Reasoning being that you say the 'whiz' comes when you rev the motor. That is if you are parked and pumping the accellerator. Sounds like something under the hood to me. Good Luck.
