Yes they do sleep. How do I know? I have goldfish at home. In fact they are sleeping right now. They keep their body still, but still move their fins so they won't sink. Yes,fish do sink. Sharks are fish and do almost the same thing. They just swim while they are sleeping. Fell free to ask more fish questoins. Im all ears.

Yes they do! Fish sleep! they sleep with their eyes open! so don't bother them while they are sleeping!!! gold fish sleep too!
gold fish sleep at the bottom of the tank. when you see them stay there and do not move that's mean they are sleeping. for some other fish they might sleep while they are floating in the middle of the water. you can tell whether they are sleeping or not. my gold fish sleep at night most the time after i turn off the light or in the early morning.

(I love Fish and i have many fish at home.)

Eye lids for fish are different - they have a special membrane that covers the eye, yet still allows them to see. When they sleep, they're eyes appear to be open because there are no outer eyelids.

Well they don't sleep like humans or other mammals. Fish do not experience deep sleep or REM sleep. REM is when we do most of our dreaming. But fish do have day/night activity cycles. During the night ( lights off, darkened room) fish become far less active than during the day and this can be considered as a rest period.

It is true that fish do not have eyelids which is why this rest time can only be triggered by turning off the lights.

When the fish is tired it will become still ,they will usually go to the bottom of the fish tank and yes their eyes remain open. They also don't have eyelids ,but if you think it is dead check the gills first and make sure it is breathing before you flush it down the toilet!

although dolphins aren't fish they sleep just like them. They have the ability to have half of there brain rest while the other is still working. So they don't have to close there eyes to rest

They definitely need time to rest. Think of fish going "idle" as us humans do. Don't associate sleep with just closing our eyes. Our bodies get repaired when we sleep, just as fishes bodies need to repair. so yea, they do sleep, but don't have eyelids.
