Hi, a great question! We usually trust friends, that is what people look for when they become friends. True friends will help you through and wish you well even if they don't quite agree with what you say or do. They will also tell you their honest opinion if they think you're asking for trouble in a situation. Strangers are tougher to trust because we fear disappointment and betrayal. When you like a stranger, however, you tend to trust that person more than you trust your friends. It's hard to separate from one's own emotions and see where the truth is.
Still, friends are often too emotional as well. A person you know less may prove more objective in a testing time and help you more than worried friends. A detached opinion is what friends and family hardly give. If you have to make an important decision, you'd better trust yourself in the first place. Listen to friends and relatives, listen to an opinionated, or just cute, stranger if you want to; even listen to a girl you have never seen (like me) if you're in the mood. Then, make up your own mind without letting anyone put pressure on you. Apply logic and good old common sense, but also let your intuition work for you. That's what I usually do, hope it's helpful. Good luck!

From a moral point of view, it is better to trust a stranger, since trusting a friend requires no particular effort or risk. Many societies and religions require believers to offer shelter to strangers, which is the highest form of trust.

I feel it is better to learn to "trust" yourself - then you can decide whether you would be able to "dish" out trust to any other - either "a friend or a stranger"! The question is a little too general. In order to suitably answer such a question one would need to know more of the specifics of the situation - - - - such as: "under what circumstances",is this trust to be given to anyone?

If my life depended on it then I would trust a friend.
If I was trying to figure out if my shoes matched my trousers, I'd take the word of a stranger any day.

U can trust only a person whom u know well. A stranger is the one on whom we can't trust. But it is only friends whom we can trust sometimes but not always. B'coz to trust on someone u must first know them properly. But still more preference to trust goes to friends n not to a stranger.

I would say a friend. Why? Because you have more knowledge and experience with a friend's level of trustworthiness than a strangers. There's less risk than going with a total unknown.

If you can't trust your friends then are they truly your friends. I would trust my friends with my life. But I don't make everyone I meet my friends.
