mainly i'm talking about lawyers suing for stupid thing like fast food making people fat, hearing loss from music, etc. but the government has made many laws that only affect the person doing it. i'm not talking about legalizing drugs either as many people get thier drug money by affecting other people.

Yes, we should be allowed to make our own decisions when it comes to safety, so long as the decision will only affect us. This means that I should be able to drive without a seatbelt (risking only my own health), but I shouldn't be able to drive drunk (putting other people at risk).

There are many reasons why we should be able to make our own safety decisions. Our lives and bodies belong to us, so we should be able to risk them as we see fit. It is also important to realize that a government empowered to protect us from ourselves would be empowered to do nearly anything, since nearly anything can be presented as a "danger".

thats a tough one... if you are talking about smoking ... I think the government should have some say because the amount of people dying from it is not good and the health care situation is only going to get worse if they don't regulate some of it.
Look at it this way...safety can mean alot of different things but for instance... having a speed limit is the same idea in effect.. drive slower ... die less. (hopefully)
I guess it depends on what you mean when you say safety.
In what instance?

One of the fundamental tenants of a free society is the freedom to succeed or fail on our own. The legitimate purpose of government is to protect the liberty of the citizens. Anything more than that, even in the guise of protecting you from yourself, in tyranny.

You are responsible to have elected them for decision making

Don't make a fool of yourself as we have all been fooled by them

Think twice now when you have to vote

On a personal level, but not on a public level, like for products and medicine.
