For thousands of years, societies have had as their backbone a method of govn't and a god to worship. It gave a national identity and a common set of god-laws so to speak.

Only with the USA "experiement" in 1776 did the concept of not having a "state religion" get its start. That's why the concept of America is so important !!

Depends greatly on how you define the words as well as the context in which they are used. From the perspective of both terms as aspects of human behavior, they are essentially one and the same thing.

None, one side will construe that the other has a relationship with a percieved evil in order to make them look bad, whether or not they actaully are.
