Let's assume your need for alcohol is due to your body sensing that there is too little food in your blood stream to keep your brain alive. Food in the bloodstream is glucose (a form of sugar), and is made from your digestive processes breaking down the food you eat into that basic sugar. Alcohol is a form of sugar that is quickly ingested and quickly satisfying to the body's need for sugar.

If that is the case, which can be tested by having a doctor test your insulin level (a fasting blood insulin test), which should test high (10 or more), or a glucose tolerance test of 6 hour length (insist on 6 hours) which should show a drop of more than 50 in a one hour period, or a drop below 70 at any time, then the solution is to eat other foods that satisfy your body's need for sugar, or to trick your body into being satisfied with a lower level of sugar. Suggest to the doctor that you are concerned about becoming a diabetic. Do you have a family history of diabetes? This may allow him/her to order the tests.

Check out www.hufa.org, but remember while you are reading the info that alcohol, like sugar, is a carbohydrate.

You don't cope, you deal with the problem... Don't know where you live but there probably is AA somewhere in your city or town. Find it, ask questions. Sorry but that probably means quitting the drinking. Give it a chance, heck, if you don't like it you can always pick up a bottle and start over..

You can start by going to the hospital and going for detox....there they will help you thru the first critical times....have doctor to give you medicine to calm those impulse you feel when wanting to drink...meet new people maybe in the AA meetings and don't go around the places and friends that drink and don't want to help themselves like you are trying to do.keep focus and know that rough times are ahead and you can deal with it ...than feel good about your self and be strong ....keep your head up...wish you all the luck in the world. you can do this.....help other that need to know what alcoholism is....and you will feel much better,,PS. my sister was a heavy drug user in dope, today she is strong has a master in degree college and now works for the school....and she fought and fought and now she have been Clean about l7 years ....again ....trust your self and be strong. you can do it.

Acknowledging it is a big step - attend an open Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in your area (or another area) and remain open to the ideas there.
