i think the referre was bought by the french because that penalty wasnt supposed to be a penalty since that foul was not a foul. plus, portugal dominated most of the match, they just needed more time and they were clearly better than the french. it sucks that this happened just because Portugal is a small country. i hate this corruption.

I know!! I so agree with you! I was in France and so annoyed how all of the teenagers outside in the street were yelling with joy at the so-called "victory" of France against Portugal! I mean, it was just some stupid foul, and a stupid foul that shouldn't have even taken place! Okay, got that off my chest... lol. Thanks for asking! I think you will find that the referee was slightly nervous of giving decisions to the Portuguese as they have a bad diving and faking reputation at international level and the tension from their previous match against England. It was a penalty because the defender made a tackle which had no chance of getting the ball and instead got the player therefore making it a foul. Portugal would have to pull something special to win that match as they were playing with a lone striker which never once looked like scoring even with the support from C.Ronaldo and Luis Figo. The only time they looked threatening to the French defence was in the last 10 minutes when C.Ronaldo was playing through the centre but this was too little too late. You may say that they only beat them by one goal but a common french tactic is just to get one goal and hang on for the rest of the game. The Italians have been known to do this also. No, don't be so ridiculous - I am fed up with this Portugal were cheated because they are a small country blah, blah, blah; the French must have paid the referee (who of course doesn't give a f*** for his own reputation in frount of the watching world) blah, blah, blah; everyone connected to FIFA is against Portugal blah, blah, blah, all of our Portugal players are squeaky clean and never dive or roll around on the floor pretending that they are in agony, blah, blah, blah..........................look the penalty France got was a bit iffy, but it was just a poor call by the ref who has to make an instant decision on the spot.............at the end of the day you lost, and you couldn't score a goal - just acccept it!

i agree! Portugal played better than France. Portugal should win over France!! And I think they also deserve to be World Cup 2006 winner, or at least second place since they play so well.

I was supporting France but I must admit that Portugal played really well and it seemed as if they would emerge victorious. What you have to understand is that the french were lucky and in football everything can not go your way.. Mite seem unfair but its not..Its just the way things are.

At some of the moments where Portuguese players fell down like a ten-pins they would actually equalize would they keep playing. Most idiotic was episode with Michel who made a great dribbling, broke into the area, plaid good ball to Pauleta, and when it was great moment to finish just decided to fall down without anyone touching him actually.
I believe that Ronaldu could have collected some ricochets and score if he would keep movement instead of falling. Portuguese punished themselves this time..

I totally agree with you. I was supporting portugal but ikept on noticing that the referee was favoring the french! he gave them penalties and turned a blind eye if they did sumthing wrong

all i know, alot of injustice was done in this world cup by refs.
that was not a penalty...full stop. but say what. Crouch scored a goal but committing a foul(jumpin on the defender back and pull his hair) and i didn't hear any outcry.
So whatever happens happens!
