Buy Grass seeds, should take about 1-2 weeks!

If you don't want to use chemicals because of pets or children boiling water is a good idea but it may have actually killed the roots of the grass in that area. Vinager will do the same and is great to kill weeds in sidewalks and areas that don't have grass near them.
Remove the dead grass in the area and plant some grass seed. Keep the area moist (but not flooded) and you will have grass within a few weeks.

Throw a bit of fertiliser on the dead patch, maybe a little soil to lightly topdress the lawn, then water, the lawn should start sprouting soon enough - depending on the weather there.

As soon as it rains the grass will grow back. In the meantime use miracle gro lawn food. Excellent!
