We ought to minimize this basic, natural feeling whether it be fear of the unknown, fear of oppressors, or fear of everything from germs to broccoli. We should keep faith in our beliefs about reality--no matter what they are--in order to have a better grasp of our environment and thus less reason to fear it. I say that we should follow Yoda: "Do or do not. There is no try." Yes, there are some cases in which fear is justified, such as fear (respect) of God and fear (respect) of traditions. But ultimately, we should find a way to just DO our lives without thinking too hard about the consequences. Just DO it, as the Nike slogan posits. Don't live with illegitimate fear. What do you think? What's a solution to this problem that has plagued individuals all over the world?

Perhaps instead of saying ELIMINATE fear I should have said MINIMIZE fear. You need to read what I put in the question details: some fear is necessary, such as survivalistic fear, fear of God, fear of traditions, etc. Next time, don't just read the question and answer. At least look at the details. There are other kinds of fear that we ought to eliminate.

The only way to eliminate fear, is that you must change your mind. Example: If you have fear of an exam, you must really realize, that this is only an exam, and nothing more. Life goes on!
Or if you have fear of death, you should realize that its normal that one time everything is finished. That you life this moment and not twenty, thirty years or not only one second in the future.
You can feelings only change when you change your mind! Nothing more!!! When you realize this you can eliminate fear in some parts or things. But also fear is natural, and also the feeling of fear is important.
Sorry, but probably you didn't understand what I mean!!

P.S. Sorry for my english

No fear is ever justified but by "False Evidance Appearing Real".

Survival fear: Fact 1 - nobody will suvive life, everybodies appointment with eternity has beeen scheduled. Without having fear we can stilltake intelligent actions and not touch a live electrical wire, play with a rattle snake, step in front of a bus, don't play russion roulette, etc.

Fearing God: God is not to feared as He is pure and everlasting love. Just read the story of the prodigal son. All that God does is love you and celebrate when you return to him. God does not punish anybody for his sins, we all get punished "by" our sins. God has never stopped loving and He never will: do you really think that our stupid little sins can make God change his mind and start hating and punishing? How arrogant.

When you dig deep you will see that all your fears you create in your mind, that's the only place they will ver exist, knowbody outside of your mind has any idea what you are doing there. All that stuff is a nightmare you create and you will have to bear the consequences, your fears make no difference to me.

Think about it, deeply, when, if ever, one of your fears and worries has ever come true. These fears come and go, you can't find the anywhere, they have had any existance outside of mind. However, from there origin they may affect you health, wellbring, mood, relationships, etc. - which is your punish cause by your fears.

Remember, the past is gone and unchangable, no need to ever look back; the future doesn't exist and what we evision and worry about won't happen anyway; all we have is now - here is how it works: when you fly from A to B there is only one determining monent - when the plane meets the earth. It may be a landing or a crash. Until that moment you can sing, dance, eat, drink, etc., it would not make any difference: you are fully alive and well. Whatever happens next you can't change or influence, you can deal with it afterwards.

SUCH IS LIFE - nothing else is there.

Fear of God is completely unnecessary and maintains the existence of illegitimate fear and keeps reproducing fear, what you are trying to grasp I feel is actually love of God/dess and a vibrant relationship with said verb. Fear of traditions, traditions are built on fear and therefore we will eliminate some of our fear by doing away with them and coming up with our own answers based on our experience. Survivalistic fear well we wouldn't want to eliminate that, it keeps us alive and gives us a sense of caution. To eliminate other forms of fear we would have to remove the threats themselves, in that we would need to cooperate to keep oppressors from rising to power. Fear of the unknown is a fear that is extremely difficult to alleviate and the only way is to take the unknown and move into it so that it becomes the known or to simply enjoy and engage the mystery of the unknown instead of cowering in front of it. Fear of germs is actually a good fear because it prevents us from getting sick. Fear of broccoli is a little ridiculous. I agree that there is no try because I have yet to see a bird try to fly, a pie try to bake itself, or a person try to urinate. Life is involuntary and can only be done not tried. To be fear less is merely to fear LESS, not to be without fear entirely.

No faith can survive unless it can defend itself. Sikhism was born in a hostile atmosphere and had to face a lot of persecution. In addition to giving Sikhs lessons in the art of daily living, the Gurus gave Sikhs power to uphold their beliefs. For this reason Guru Hargobind donned two swords: one of spiritual leadership and the other of temporal power. He was the first Guru to throw a challenge to the Mughal power and to wage a war against the cruel and corrupt administration .His disciplined soldiers were successful against the Mughal armies in three battles. Guru Hargobind popularised the cult of the sword for the purpose of defence, justice and greater than the truth the truthful living.

Ethics and morality are the basis of Sikhism.Evolution of the spirit is not possible without righteous conduct and adherence to social morality. The Sikh follows the personal ethics like telling the truth ,gentle speech, fair play, service, humility and tolerance.Morality cannot be an end in itself. It is an aid to the spiritual life. Sin is a definite obstacle on the path of Divinity.

In a similar situation ,after the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Gobind Singh took up arms against Empire Aurangzeb. He justified the use of force as the only means of survival. He wrote in Zafarnama:

"When affairs are past other remedies,It is justifiable to unsheathe the sword."

Where goodness and sacrifice cannot avail, violence has to be met by violence.

Guru Gobind Singh's Baisakhi address, 1699.
Let all embrace one creed and obliterate differences of religion.Let the four Hindu castes who have different rules for the guidance abondon them all, adopt the one form of adoration, and become brothers.Let no one deem himself superior to another and eliminate the fear of the other.

We can never completely destroy fear, and to greatly decrease it would involve a Utopian, or very controlling, government. I believe that if people totally minimize fear, our race would become arrogant and unwary. There are risks everywhere. We are risks to ourselves. If those risks are taken away, we will still find something to fear, even if it be our life. Fear and respect are very different things, even opposites. I may fear pain, and yes, I may respect it in awe, but I can never respect someone without a personal code of conduct. Aye, I may fear them for having a power or advantage over me, but I cannot truly respect them. There are solutions, though. If we found and eradicated a genetic code for fear, we could take it out. If we live in a totalitarian government, and people lived in ignorance of pain and suffering, we may be able to eliminate it. But in this generation, and the generation of our children, we will still fear.

Face the fear. 99% of the things we fear never materialize. We can never rid ourselves of fear totally and this is good. Fear is a built in safty device. Keeps us from wlking tight ropes over Niagra Falls and playing Russian Roulette. But every day fears are beatable. Yes, no try, trying denotes faliure. And why did you ask a question that you answered?

Why would you want to eliminate fear? We have it for a reason. Example: Some people are afraid of snakes... well that's justified some snakes bite and can be deadly, if there wasn't that fear than people might get hurt, or act as dumb as Steve Erwin, and we only need one of him in the world.

Fear is necessary for our survival. Without fear what stops you from swimming out as far as you can or crossing the street when/where ever you want?
Without fear I would not have lived long enough to realize that fear was necessary.

we have genes that are responsible for fear, I may say it kind of act as a defense mechanism for whatever weakness we may be harboring, but un necessary fear should and ca n be eliminated, it interfere with normal social or occupational function, the best way is to eliminate the source of fear!
