The worst I've come across so far is Chris Isaak's "The End of Everything" -the most self-pitying, indulgent, miserable song I've come across. Or are there worse?

Whoever said Seasons in the Sun, i agree. So bad and miserable that the worst boy band in the world, Westlife, had the opportunity to cover it.

Also anything by Phil Collins, made miserable by the fact its all sang by Phil Collins.

Try 'Failure' from an album called 'White Light From The Mouth of Infinity' by Swans.

I have been lonely
And I have been blind
And I have learned nothing
So my hands are firmly tied
To the sinking leadweight of failure
etc.

So miserable it's actually rather entertaining.

well, supposedly, the one that made the most people commit suicide was Gloomy Sunday - Billie Holiday (the Bjork version is good too).

But i prefer the Maker Makes - Rufus Wainwright.

"My Mummy's Dead" by John Lennon. He's singing about the death of his mother. Judging by the pain in his voice, it's surprising that the guy didn't open a vein.
