If pot was legalized, pharmaceutical companies would loose millions of dollars in profits. They have a vested interest in pushing mind altering drugs to a gullible, advertising addicted public. Once people found that all their anxieties could be taken care of with a simple weed, they would never think of wasting their money on test-tube swill again.

That is a fabulous question. I'm not a pot smoker, or any drugs but I think there are serious consequences to legalizing drugs and serious implications to not legalizing them.
I grew up in Belgium and I saw first hand how desparate and oppressed a body of people can become when the government declares something "acceptable". Basically, what I'm saying is that legalizing something of this magnitude can influence an entire country in a very negative way. I'm not sure of all the ways that that can happen but Amsterdam is NOT a pretty place. The women prostitutes are NOT enjoying their life as much as most of the men who visit them think they are. It's a completely depressed and opressed people with little or no money and even less opportunity and their government basically turns their head and says "hey, to each his own and we'll not do anything to create progress, we'll just let ya get high and forget your troubles". Not that that would happen here but it isn't a turn in the right direction. It's so tough.

Besides the taxation issue, it is also illegal because back when pot came to America, there were no laws against its use. Since many Mexican immigrants smoked pot, and brought it with them when they came over, the government made it illegal as a way of stopping their immigration. This is similar to how they made opium illegal when the Chinese immigrants arrived on the west coast.
Legalization will have it's day. More and more people smoke and it has been shown to kill cells before they die and become cancerous, a recent study has shown.
Also, our last two presidents have dabbled in it with little ill efect on their elections..one a dem, and one a republican. The MAJOR question in years to come will be not "did he/she smoke", "BUT DID HE/SHE SELL"?

No; pot is illegal because prohibition was repealed. When prohibition was repealed in the late 1920s, it would have thrown all those "revenoors" out of jobs, as well as giving the mobs much less to do, so a coalition of these groups got together and lobbied to make pot and coke illegal.

Pot was also made illegal because hemp is a far more superior material than cotton. As a lot of the richer people in America where cotton farmers back in the day, who do u think won the monopoly?

Some state governments DO tax pot, even though it is illegal.. Both Arizona (the 1st) and Kansas have marijuana tax or revenue stamps and those who sell pot can be prosecuted for failure to pay taxes as well other penalties.

Cause pot is a plant that produces alot of seeds, and if it can be grown easily they can't control WHO grows it or where, therefore they can't impose taxes on it.
