I sometimes speak too quickly without thinking first. It is a fault, one of many I have. Words hurt without a doubt. No matter how much we apologize afterward, damage in the form of scarring remains. Once I said to my son "I am ashamed of you." It had to hurt, even though it wasn't meant. That was many years ago, it is long forgotten.....hopefully so. That moment should be taken back, instead "I love you no matter what," would always make more sense.

Wow, how do you top the last two. Both good answers. How many times have we spoken out of anger, or done things we know were terribly wrong. Some we can't even rectify. There is no penance great enough. It's also too late. We can never undo what was said or done, but we can't use it like a hammock, either. To lie there in complacency would defeat the purpose of the lesson learned. There is no amount of bad that some good can not be made of it. (The direct translation from my father, I couldn't word it right. ) We have to use those regrets and shortfalls to bring about change. The first part of that is to accept responsibility and the second, to actively seek a way to atone for that. Whether it be a hug and apology, or to do better in your life so that you can shine above that error.

No...wouldn't want to take it back. I'm in a wonderful place right now and am very happy. I've been through a whole lot of bad to arrive here. If I changed even one tiny thing in my past...my future could have turned out way differently and I might've never landed here in happiness. So no...I survived the bad and it made me stronger.
