If you have ever watched star trek you will have heard them talk of the prime directive, that advanced civilisations cannot interfer with the development and maturation of others. In the real world we don't think like this, Most of the places colonised by the industrialised nations are messed up. Iraq, India, most of africa and the americas. We came we raped we buggered off when it got tricky. These guys had complex systems of power of their own based mostly of weapons and religions of the time, the west went over, messed with their heads and hands and thn left leaving power vacums and guns. hey presto, corruption, civil unrest, death and poverty. It would be nice if these same governments could take responsibility for their mess

Many former colonies fall into these traps. Look at the colonies in Afica.
The bottom line might be racism stemming from a culture of slavery and absentee landlords.

Hmmmmm... 90% of the homeless in my city are of europeon decent and the only people I've ever met that were illiterate were from the southern states (of the USA)...
I live in Northern San Diego, so... it may just be your own crossroads in life...
