Playing music from PC means booting it all the time, and in any case some media centre PCs make a lot of noise. Plugging my Ipod into my hi-fi leads to an unacceptable loss of quality. There must be a better way.

Why don't you just make an MP3 disk? All my music at home is played though my dvd player/home theater system.

nope not unless you get a hi-fi with a mp3 player built in and if i remember they ain't cheap..... there are devices out there that will turn your ipod into a hi-fi for around 40-50 quid so i would have a look at one of those :)

You could make a MP3 CD and play it in your hi-fi.
