I have used and recommended flax seed oil with excellent results. I take two capsules a day-one in the morning and one at dinner and my cholesterol went down 50 points in six months without altering my diet. My whole family has bad cholesterol problems-our body manufactures it. I don't want to take medication that will damage my kidneys-like my mom and dad and a few others.

A high cholesterol is never good, but being bloated could be for a number of reason that could be associated with the high cholesterol. A 'bad' diet, with a lot of junk food effects cholesterol and also your digestion. If you are bloated all the time it could be IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). However, men with so called 'beer bellies' tend to have high cholesterol as the 'beer bellies' is a sign of fat around your organs, a very dangerous type of fat, which can be associated with heart problems. But the best answer is, if you are concerned, see a doctor on ways to improve your cholesterol level and the source of the bloating.

I do not understand 5.5 since the normal is up to 120mg%, but cholesterol would not make you look bloated.

I have high cholesterol mine was on 6.1 doctor put me on simvastatin to lower it. It didn't make me bloat when I was up at 6.1.
I think different countries measure cholesterol with different measurements in the UK anything above 5 according to my doctor is classed as high.

A high count could be possible an inherited condition: familia hypercholesterolemia.
This is not affected by diet or exercising.
A common sympton is fatty deposits on the eye lids.
This can be controlled with statin drugs.
Your level doesn't seem too bad.
External appearences aren't necessarily a good indication of a persons' C. levels

No, it wouldn't. That's not excessively high either. Diet control and excersise would propably sort that out, unless you are on medication already. You are propably retaining water; are eating the wrong types of foods ie foods that are actively bloating you or you have a thicker sub-dermal layer of adipose tissue.
