I fully agree with you. I was at one of the U2 concerts last year (cost £85) which was ruined with Bono constantly reminding the audience about the poor in Africa and to text the word 'Africa' to him etc etc. We all knew about the poor in Africa, but for 90 minutes wanted to forget all the rubbish going on in the world and enjoy ourselves.
He and the rest of U2 live in Eire and as 'artists' do not have to pay income tax. U2 have probably earned in excess of £400 million over the past 20 years so that adds up to a hell of a lot of unpaid tax.
At an estimate, £160 million in tax at 40%.
And that is just 4 people.
Remember that Live Aid raised £50 million on the day.
If the rich like him actually paid their own way then maybe governments might have more in the way of spare cash to help alleviate the problems of the Developing World.
Last year's Live 8 concert did nothing except increase the profiles and, therefore, record sales of the artists involved. People like Brad Pitt walking on stage (another person worth in excess of £50 million) do not help either. The amount of money sat idle in the bank accounts of these people is obscene.
Bono - please stop harrassing us and instead get your superstar, multi-millionaire mates to dig deep into their pockets. If you think that your supposed philanthropic actions on stopping world poverty can help make amends for your own greed and that of the rest of your overpaid peers then you must take us all for fools.

Trouble is there damned if they do, and damned if the don't, Yes they are in a the public eye and are in a position to make change? I don't know if they do have "inflated egos" or in fact they are genuinely concerned about helping the poorer parts of the world, One thing is for sure though if I was to stand in the middle of a concert shouting my beliefs (what ever they are) would anyone listen?...I don't think so somehow, You maybe right perhaps they are doing it for more publicity but then maybe not? Singers, Comedians, Actors etc, are all in a better position to project a problem than "Joe Bloggs" of the street, so let them carry on, at least if nothing else the problems of these third world countries are being heard. I must admit to feeling the same when I see people like Bono shouting their beliefs to the rest of the world "yea its OK for you mate you have a nice house/car and plenty of dosh" But I would hate to think that by feeling this way I might make some of these stars/celebs what ever you may call them, shy away and have nothing to do with world problems.

We live in a time when hypocricy has taken over the centre stage. What have they done? What can they do? They are called celebrity so that they can reap off you and me- ride on our love of them and sadly too, they are the cheapest instrument in the hands of politician. They are convinced that we do not know what goes on behind the stage.
They are actually living a cosmetic life. I wonder when last they gave a helping hand to the poor. Or when was the last time a poor man- not according to their dictionary anyway- ever had assess to say hi to them, sayless tell them his/her problem.
The US is busy making beggars of other nations. As a leading power, she can make the world a save harven, rather than do this, it busied herself with bullying others and consolidating its power and blocking the emergence of any power- despite the fact that no nation has ever stayed there forever.
Bono and his likes will come and go and we shall soon forget them. Whether they spend their money -on the poor- or not, it will all soon be over. Where OJ Simpson? Where's Michael Jacko? They are no more than an instrument in the hands of politician and military cabal, who make them at will, dump them at will and even kill them as they deem fit.
Osama was a darling of the US until the unfortunate and mystery
9/11. I think we shall get the detail of who done it because it is still a mystery. Saddam has nuclear power and he was removed and his people killed daily, and the world never ask where is the nuclear machine? They make and dumb them....
Whos' next Mr. Bono?

PTC7571 you nailed that one right on the head. Bono forgets that a lot of people with very little spare income buy his records, As music is a way of forgetting all the rubbish that is working peoples normal day. He then builds up a massive tax free nest egg then has the balls to ask for more. It is not right what is going on in Africa but for a multi millionaire to ask the people that have put him there for more money is a kick in the balls. Band Aid was a great idea. Do what you do best Bono, write and sing songs and give ALL the money to Africa. That way we all buy it and get enjoyment out of the music, you raise your profile and the starving in Africa get the money they so badly need. JUST STOP TELLING US, WE KNOW...

See MaCartney and Bono sing
See how much money they will bring
See them dine,Champagne and Caviar
See them spend millions for car
See the food how much they waste
Starving people nothing to taste
See the money how much they waste
Starving people with no waist
On the TV
They must be
Showing us the poverty
Saying what it should be
As they say every penny helps
Which we as poor as we are do to help
But they sit in CLOUD CUCKOO land
With their MILLIONS
Telling us to donate the small coppers we have
Then think they have done MORE than anyone else
I think they should
GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY
,.. that is F--- OFF

I agree with grumpyoldgit 100%. If Bono and Macca and the other inflated egos of the music business sincerely want to make poverty history, then they should give half their wealth, only half of it, and they would make poverty ANCIENT HISTORY! Also, rumour has it that there is going to be another Live 8 concert in which various musicians will assemble to perform in protest against the wealth of the richest men and women in the world - namely Elton John, Bono, Madonna, Robbie Williams, Sting.....!

bob geldof and more they are all them same i mean i cant remember when it was for comic relief it think Victoria beckham was in the slums holding a little boy and begging for money and all i could think the was the value of your clothes alone would probably feed him for the year let alone how much Money and assets you have. they are all stinking hypocrites and until some one puts there money where there mouth was then i wont change my mind. the only exception to this is Oprah Winfrey and john Travolta and the others stars in America that helped with hurricana katrina victims at least they did something worthwhile big respect to them

Money is meant to be circulated it's meant to go around.
These people amass money for money's sake, whilst it may offend people to find some people spending money like water, but at least that money is being circulated and it filters down to the lesser mortals like us, it keeps people in jobs, but hording money is wrong, get some spent Maca and Bono.

How many celebrities does it take to change a light bulb?
Just one. They hold the bulb, and the rest of the world revolves around them.

bring them all to The Isle of Foreigners AKA England
There's not one foreign national here that lives in poverty, the only poverty here is white english people leaving school having to rape pilage and murder to survive because they can't get anything from welfare unless they change nationality.
So the only way to stop poverty around the world is to BRING THEM ALL TO ENGLAND, LAND OF THE HAND OUT.
And all us silly bastards pay tax to reduce the poverty,
