“Rednecks” are largely descendants of the Ulster-Scots and Lowland Scots immigrants who travelled to North America from Northern Ireland and Scotland in the late 17th and 18th centuries. The Ulster-Scots had historically settled the major part of Ulster province in northern Ireland, after previous migration from the Scottish Lowlands and Border Country. These pioneering people and their descendants are known in North America as the Scots-Irish.

Redneck was also gicen to the people of East Asia during the European (mostly/all British) occupation of the area. The East Asian people who rebeled against this occupation wore red skarfes around their necks, and the area beeing East Asia, they sweat alot due to heat. Whenever the Europeans (British) would do searches for rebels, they would look for the people wearing red skarfes. In an act of common sense, the rebels would take the skarfes off, but would soon realize that the die from the skarfe was died into their skin due to the sweating. This term beeing used today to describe the people of the southern states of the United States (i.e., the former Confederate States) becasue the "Rednecks" of East Asia rebeled from the South (South being used when comparing the region to Europe), just like the Southern States of the United States once rebelled.

you are utterly an asshole. To answer my question in the way you did. If you and your wife(if you have one) wanted to have one and you could, you would most likely adopt or have a surrogate carry your child. It is a matter of ethics and beliefs, I respect that you gave an opinion, but you have no right to tell me that i should not be a mother or that they should not become parents people have the right and the privilage to become parents and if you dont respect that YOU should not become a parent. I hope that if you do become a parent that you teach you child that people are different everywhere you go and they must ACCEPT it because they CANNOT change it, and RESPECT people like they should be respect. I am appauld that you had the audacity to say such a thing. I know i will be a great parent because my parents raised me with values and respect. I too am a child of adoption and i definately came out just fine i could ask for more, i love my parents because they are different and WHITE which makes our family UNIQUE.

G'day mate!
Simply put a redneck is a cowboy type or associated with blue collar(manual,semi-skilled) labor. Usually conservative in view and considered to be of limited educational and/or social skills. A roustabout would classify as a redneck. Traits can include country-western music beer consumption, cowboy or hardhat bars, Racism,Fighting etc. nearly the linear opposite of a liberal or hippy. I grew up around these type of people in Idaho. They aren't necessarily bad people as a whole but many are bigoted and mean spirited. They tend to be of lower economic standing.
The current President of The United States(George W. Bush) appeals to these type of individuals and seems to identify himself
with this community through his Texan roots. (See good ol boys)

There were in centuries past offshoots of the catholic church notably The Scottish that were refered to as Rednecks, but this has fallen to anachronism and unlikely to come back.
