I have lived in Calif., Va., Maryland, Florida, (Briefly) & Massachusetts. I visit New Hampshire yearly. I cwould say Mass hands down. BUT it also isn't the weather you have said in your question. You do have four seasons here and it isn't like Calif weather in the least. We have it all. But I like it.

Sounds like you want laidback if you're from California, a place where you aren' the only one :) who's into pot, and a moderate climate. I'm also getting someplace not as crowded. I would very much recommend Asheville, North Carolina. Rolling Stone Magazine rated it as one of the coolest places to live in the US. It's in the mountains at the tip of North Carolina and it's a very progressive city. The population is just under a 100,000 but it has more going on for it than cities much larger. It has a university there as well as a good sized group of people who live there because of the great outdoor sports possibilities there...skiing, whitewater rafting, hiking and climbing, etc. The air is clean, the city itself is beautiful and the weather is moderate (four distinct seasons). There is very little snow in the city itself during the winter (the surrounding mountains get quite a bit though) and the summers are fantastic, warm but not hot and low humidity. Falls are spectacular, tons of color and clear sunny days. And no tornados or hurricanes! And you won't believe the cost of living, compared to what you're used to now...it's cheap there! Visit if you get a chance, you'll love it.

I know that Colorado is FULL of people from California because Colorado has one of the wierdest weather ever and its a mix of just everything except hurricanes or tornadoes! the real estate is a lot cheaper about 1/3 of the price of the same house you get in Cali! if not Colorado then I would say some place where crimes is the lowest ever becuase this means that the city or state is under control and also good people ther too if you are planning for a family if you don't have one yet! Good Luck!

also if you think about colorado I prefer Colorado Springs because its not too crowded and its a easy place to live in! note: Colorado springs police won National safety award for having a safe and secure city!

There is no where that you can go in the states that is like what you're describing. You're looking for Utopia, and it doesn't exist. Everywhere has something, heat, cold, bad weather. Too bad, but it sounds like you need to stay in Cali anyway.

move to northern california, its a jungle up there, the further north you go on the coastline, the thicker it gets and its still pretty nice weather.
