Would Bono create a precedent by letting people know how much he personally donated to help the poor and in turn influence all the other well off people of the world to engage in the same altruistic behaviour

I fully agree with you. I was at one of the U2 concerts last year (cost £85) which was ruined with Bono constantly reminding the audience about the poor in Africa and to text the word 'Africa' to him etc etc. We all knew about the poor in Africa, but for 90 minutes wanted to forget all the rubbish going on in the world and enjoy ourselves.

He and the rest of U2 live in Eire and as 'artists' do not have to pay income tax. U2 have probably earned in excess of £400 million over the past 20 years so that adds up to a hell of a lot of unpaid tax.

At an estimate, £160 million in tax at 40%.
And that is just 4 people.
Remember that Live Aid raised £50 million on the day.

If the rich like him actually paid their own way then maybe governments might have more in the way of spare cash to help alleviate the problems of the Developing World.

Last year's Live 8 concert did nothing except increase the profiles and, therefore, record sales of the artists involved. People like Brad Pitt walking on stage (another person worth in excess of £50 million) do not help either. The amount of money sat idle in the bank accounts of these people is obscene.

Bono - please stop harrassing us and instead get your superstar, multi-millionaire mates to dig deep into their pockets. If you think that your supposed philanthropic actions on stopping world poverty can help make amends for your own greed and that of the rest of your overpaid peers then you must take us all for fools.

Does it really matter how much he donates, how much do you donate? The fact that such a significante personality like Bono is making a stand should be grattitude enough for the rest of us. Bono, aswell as other celebrities are listened to when they make a point, and if in the morning they decided to say or do nothing, what state would that leave the world in, and what would your question be then?

That is what I was thinking.. It would be nice to know that people like Bono were contributing with the rest of us...

Mind you I've not liked Bono since he used a Private Jet to fly to a private Band Aid recording so he could sing 'his' line - rather then the less famous person who was due to sing it and was in the main studio ready

A lot more than most people.

And why don't you ask the same question of George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Tony Blair, John Prescott, Jack Straw and other leading US and UK politicians who are wasting billions of our (taxpayers') money on illegal wars and occupations of foreign countries.

Well, maybe be cause the answer would be 0 in every case, as our great leaders talk cheap, live expensive and do not care the slightest bit for the real problems in the world (apart from those they have created themselves).

I have asked the same question about his mate Geldof.

Remember, they and others like them are a business. A business that is subject to taxes. Donating time to charitable works they can receive tax relief.

Nice work if you can get.

Celebrities donate money, but because its a trend going on now. What I don't like is how they think they're holier then thou doing it. And people like Yahoo make them think it too by featuring their less then great questions.

he might make a disclosure of what he donates but i doubt he could influence others to make donations.i say he would have some kind of a benfit concert to try to get others to donate money
