Vinegar (approx. 1/2-1 cup)
or
Tea Tree Oil (approx. 6-10 drops)
or
Baking Soda (approx. 1/3-1 cup)
Your washer should have a pre-soak cycle. Fill it with whatever temp water the items require and put one of the above in. Add the clothes/sheets and let them soak for about 30 minutes to an hour. Let the cycle finish. Wash with your regular detergent.

My husband and I bought a house that had many pets in it with the prevous owner. This owner was sometimes too lazy to clean cages and let the pets out to go to the bathroom.
We had smells everywhere and couldn't get rid of them. We talked to a home health care worker who told me they use a product called PUSH. We bought it at a party supply store but they sell it at janitorial stores. It is not dangerous, but must be used according to directions, or it will not work, because it is a living thing.
PUSH contains a bacteria that eats other bacteria. Bab bacterias are what cause the odor you are smelling. So, if you use it, it will eat the bacteria on the sheets and the smell is gone. You can spray it on the mattress or use it on the mattress pad and it will work there too. Once the bacteria is gone, so is the smell.
Then you just clean up the PUSH bacteria.
The only thing is that you have to use the PUSH the way it is directed on the back of the bottle or it won't work. Like, we had to put it on our floor, let it sit for 20 minutes and then dab it up with a sponge. You could see the stuff working and it bubbled up, etc. It killed the pet odor smell.
This worker said they used it on an old woman's mattress who had bladder control issues and it actually turned black from eating all of the bacteria! But, she did say after they did it several times (The mattress was destroyed and had been urinated on for several months) the smell was completely dissipated.
Hope this helps.

Bleach will kill any scent.
Detergent laundry soap, then add either white vinegar OR baking soda, let stand for a while, then run through cycles.
Shout is for stains, not smells.
If it's cat pee, then the things I suggested will work. Kid pee will come out with any detergent. Just don't overfill the washer.
Perhaps it's their BEDS that smell? It's easy to get kid pee out, just wash. If you are putting the sheets on the beds when you smell the smell...it's the mattress!!
For mattress, mix your own bottle of white vinegar and water, about half and half. Spray to make the bed damp...then let AIR DRY all day. That will take out just about anything. THEN...mix a bottle of about 1/5 any liquid fabric softener you like with 4/5 water. Shake and spray onto the bed..sheets...curtains (darker ones or check for color fastness)...carpets! This is basically what any fabric scenter is. I use both bottles around my house all the time, keep them on hand. Plus, the fabric softener one really makes you carpet feel softer!

I really don't know of anything you can make at home, but here's my suggestion. Call a carpet cleaner and ask them if they use a product called Hydrocide. If they do, ask them if they can order a bottle of it for you - this stuff works wonders. I have used it on carpet, laundry, and my car. My cat had an accident on his cat bed and I ran the bed through the washer with some Hydrocide added to it, and it completely and thoroughly removed the smell. You can also go to the company's website direct. Another thing, don't use fabric softener on your carpet - it can ruin it fast, and when you have it professionally cleaned, the fabric softener is hard to get out.

Three ways.
Febreze for laundry removes scents.
Oxyclean helps or an oxyboosting product.
For pet urine, we use "natures miracle" or another enzymatic cleaner available from pet stores. This would require soaking.

I think that pee smell is something that you might be using on your child and after a while it smells like pee. I just had some guests and they had small kids and they didn't smell like anything until after a while, IDK really know what it is though! I think that dark color absorbs more odor than lighter one's!

Baking soda might help, and it is very gentle on the skin. If you use something like bleach, be sure to rinse the clothes twice. Also, if you can hang them outside to dry, that will probably help.
