Many studies have been done regarding this with no definitive conclusions. For some people, alcohol really adversely affects health but for others its no problem. In answer to your question, it depends on the individual.

If you partake: be sure you are of legal age, you are among friends and you do not drive after drinking.

Alcohol has both good and bad effects.
Some drinks containing alcohol have benefits from other components.
Alcohol is a toxin and if you drink more than one unit a day you risk harming yourself. One unit a day is a paltry amount, very few people drink like this.

Having a glass of wine at night (ONE GLASS) is considered to be good for your health. Alcohol in large portions can be very detrimental to your health. It strips your body of electrolytes and causes severe damage to your liver. It makes your skin leathery and when your older, it can cause redness in your skin and broken veins around your nose. This is not including the dumb things that you can do to yourself while intoxicated.
