Democrats are sexy and like to party.
Republicans are butt ugly and have wierd sexual hangups.

Democracy is the idea of 'People-Power', that the citizens of a state should have the right to decide how they are governed.
Republicanism is one way of implementing democracy by way or elected senators and a single, national head of state= the president. I live in the UK, so i live under a Consitutional Monarchy, meaning the queen is my head of state, but we also have a Parliament and Prime Minister.

There is no real difference and that's not a joke.
American parties tend to gravitate to "moderation" (sometimes a bit more right, sometimes a bit more left), but on the whole you don't really get extremism. The party operatives know that. The only thing that you can count on is there is a strong corporate influence (lobbyism) on politics and that occurs regardless which party is in power.

A democracy is a government directly governed by the people.
A democratic republic like the US is governed by legislators who are elected to represent the people.

Democracy is a true peoples majority rule. A Republic we elect officials to decide what we want (not necessarily majority vote), i.e. the electorial college to elect a President that is not the popular vote.
