For example, I have zero tolerance for people becoming (obviously and dangerously) drunk in my house...it is not tolerated.

How about you?

I have zero tolerance of the concept of zero tolerance. More often than not, especially in this time and in this country, it becomes little more than an excuse for behaving with zero intelligence

Tolerating something doesn't mean you approve of, support or respect anuything other than a dedication to an abstract concept of not persecuting those with whom you disagree. Toleration begins with understanding. I can tolerate almost anything if I can understand the roots of it because, after all, I have my own complex mix of behaviors, traits, beliefs, quirks, along with occasional errors, that I certainly want people to understand and "tolerate."

As far as I can tell, zero tolerance has led to the point where we have expelled a student for giving an aspirin to a fellow student with a headache (zero tolerance for drugs), detained and searched an elderly and obviously infirm old women trying to board an airplane (zero tolerance for terrorism), and suspended a five year old boy for kissing a five year old girl on the cheek after class (zero tolerance for unauthorized touching). This isn't even a partial list!

Meanwhile, I don't see any of the multitude of our social problems improving when a little zero tolerance is applied. So no...I think the concept of "ZT" is wrong...both on a social and personal level...although I understand why people reach for it...but for me, I'm a'gin it.

Hatred. Hatred of anything, even of all the evils of the world. Hatred is an emotion that burns or withers the soul and warps or consumes the mind. Hatred is the most non-productive of emotions in that all it generates is distress: physical, mental and spiritual. Hatred can kill. People all too often use the word too loosely -- "I hate broccoli!" No, you just don't like the taste. You don't feel so moved as to beat a bunch of broccoli to death or to attack someone who is eating broccoli at the next table. I don't hate poverty. I am revolted and pained by poverty. That revulsion and pain compels me to help when and where I can.
Some people wonder why I don't hate the five misguided Al-Qaeda adherents who murdered my husband in front of our villa in Riyadh two years ago. I can't bring myself to hate them because, if I did, I would be like them. I can be totally stunned by their actions. I can be totally emptied by my loss of husband, friend, lover, home and job. I can think of them as of less worth than pond scum (which does actually have a positive function in the scheme of things). I can feel deep sorrow for the families they left behind to become killers. I can cry for their children. I can be confused, troubled, scared, lonely and a whole host of other feelings. But I cannot hate them.
Hatred is not to be taken lightly.
Having zero tolerance is much different than hating and can be more productive if applied carefully.
I have zero tolerance for hatred.
Having zero tolerance for people who abuse your hospitality is not a bad idea either. Maybe you could put up a sign -- in VERY BIG letters that says "Drunk? Here's the door. Use it." Be sure to take away their car keys and call a taxi. Good luck.

I have zero tolerance for: undisciplined children, verbal/physical abuse, body odor and poor grooming, the way a lot of young girls and women dress, the element of brittleness and emotional-lacking of my generation, anybody thinking they can do whatever they want because they can and assuming that I will simply sit there and take it. This is just the short list. Assuming I am NOT PERFECT, I often find myself doing a "door-check" every now-and-then.

I have zero tolerance for quite a lot of things, but mostly I really can't stand people who harm little children or talk about harming other people just because they think it will make them seem cool and tough.

No tolerance for : those who sexually abuse others - they're worst than animals.

Those who are envious or jealous - they may just want to be others than themselves wich is stoopid.

Those who think that it's impossible to make the world a better place and think they're right because THEY "know" life - they just proove they're right by thinking that way.

Those who can't tolerate any difference - i.e those who arent' like them.

Religious zealotry. I can put up with a lot of crap, but when people start pushing their own religious beliefs, whatever they may be, on me or the world in general, it makes me wish I had one of those universal remotes that Adam Sandler had in his latest movie, so I could just mute them and delete them.
