Because to have loved and lost is a lesson learned. You will learn something from it and you will have experienced love, the greatest emotion of them all. There is something to be gained in that.

I don't know about all that. Once the heart is broken, it never heals completely. For me, the only person I truly love is my daughter. Even if my husband were to leave tomorrow it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I just can't allow myself to be put in a position of weakness, where the other person has power over me and my heart again. I can't feel that kind of "in love" emotion.
I think that I would rather not have loved and lost, so that I could still tell myself that the fairytale is true. Each to his own, though.

I think what the old saying really means is that it's better to make a go of life, take a stab at friendship and love than to cower in fear all your life. IF that's what the statement means, I think it has a point: it's better to have loved and lost (ie tried for love) than never to have loved at all (ie stayed at home and did nothing). What's life for anyway? Give love a chance!

To know the intimate love of another person is far better than going through life without ever having the opportunity to feel true absolute love.

What is this LOVED and LOST situation.
Think,
LOVE is precious,
LOVE is fearless,
LOVE flows from one Heart to another and
LOVE means a sort of sacrifice too.
If you say You LOVE some one and,
if YOU mean it really,
YOUR LOVE do not expect anything back, and
Even you don't expect its acceptance.
I mean LOVE is worth only when you LOVE someone without expecting anything back.
It is more worth when it is rejected or ignored by the other party.
The real pearl among LOVE situation is when you LOVE some one who hate you, reject you and ignore you.
LOVE towards some one is never lost, it is we who cease its flow from our HEART.
LOVED and LOST is ONLY A SITUATION where we score century in the game of LOVE...

Because at least you know that u tried everything making the best out of it, even if u ended up hurt. Its better to be hurt than always be thinking "what if". Love, dont be afraid of anything, if you lose that person its because it wasnt meant to be, and if you find love and u succeed, its because she/he is ur better half =).

If you ever truly love someone and they die, you will know the answer. Its beyond words...the love is so deep and the joy of being with them so great that one day with them is worth 50 years with someone else. Its better to know that love, even for a short time, than to never have it at all.

To me, losing someone you've loved and going on without them is worse than never having loved at all.

as you do get the experience to love and to give love. to learn form your mistakes and to act like an adult. but it is the worst thing on earth to carry on, to accept that you lost love.
