to tell us what the government wanted us to know.
theoretically its role is to inform, educate and entertain, but does anyone really believe that it does a good job? I prefer to watch channel4 at 7 p.m. Or even, channel 5!

the role of the bbc was informing people whose only source of news at the time was on the web. when most of the other news sites were overwhelmed by the volume, the bbc kept their site available and responding fairly quickly to people especially those of us on the west coast of the US who heard later than the rest of the world due to the time difference. for me, the bbc was the only source of accurate news on this horrible day. i am thankful they were there for us during a difficult time in our history. long live the bbc!

I sem to recall it gave complete coverage, and, particularly on the news 24 channel, devoted most of the day to the details.
