The Ultimate Spider-Man series has been addictive for me recently. And I was actually surprised. The only reason I even picked it up in the first place was because I wanted to see how bad they were driving Spider-Man into the dirt. But they've turned out pretty good. Now, of course, I don't think any of them are the BEST I've ever read. The best comic/graphic novel I ever read is a Batman story called "The Killing Joke." I haven't forgotten about it since I first bought it in 1993. The Joker is probably the most interesting super villian.

Warlock 5...

a wicked black n white airbrushed comic from back in the late 80's/early 90's.

Dynamo Joe (it's second run series with the Wolf-1 battlesuit)
-an amazing futuristic story, with rich detailed empires, characters and plotline. It was the Babylon 5 of the comic world IMHO. Had a short run, but was great for it's time.

I would also say the Akira 36 part series was one of the most impressive that I have read.

For writing, art, and power of imagination, I guess I would have to name the Sandman series, by Neil Gaiman, as an all-time favorite. It's fairy tale and horror and fantasy on a large, mythic, canvas.

Recently, I've been enjoying Y: The Last Man. It's about a world where all the males have died, except for two. It's well written and lots of fun, but sad at the same time. A big mystery, as well.

An old, old Tales from the Crypt about a big hand that would come out of the sewer (kind of like a snake) & squeeze its prey, absorbing the liquids through its palm. Eww - gives me the heebidajeebies even now. BUT I would kill for a copy!
