Ecotourism is such a hot piece of cake lately. The upsurgence of eco-resorts is creating a phenomenom in many parts of the world citing sustainability and green movements as the main reasons behind this new trend of development in resort operations.

I simply find the whole idea of an eco-resort an irony. To begin with, if anyone is building one in a nature-based area, isn't he already destroying the flora and the habits of fauna just to build a resort? And then, as if to make up for the sins committed in the destruction, the resort sets to go eco in an attempt to retrieve and reconstruct the original signs of nature............

Isn't this hypocrisy?

What do you think?

I don't think so, not if they are very thoughtful.

You need to remeber that the people in many of these regions have NO income sources. Tourism gives them the oppurtunity for a job, otherwise they would get the resources they could from the land, typically in a non-sustainable manner.

Giving these people a way to make money, helps. Having someone with lots of money and a stake in keeping the natural, natural helps.

And also if they were not there many tourists would still come and visit in a less sustainable way.

But I'd research the credibility of the Eco-Resort and make sure they are not greenwashing.
