At some point in the future things will change to a more society based mindset. Money has only been the driving force in society for a short a relatively short time, (i.e. the rise of capitalism). To the response that said that the more communist societies would start wars, if you look at history prior to the industrial revolution you'll find that wars and conflicts were started by those that had the wealth, (kings, dukes etc.) the poor were simply dragged into the fight. It will take some time but eventually capitalism will run it's course and what will come after will be a much more focused society on everyones well being.

Your not gonna change the mindset of humans to be driven for the success of society unless it was a communist government forcing you to feel that and tell you how to think.
What makes the world go round today is money plain and simple. the success of a society is no longer important when it's the global market that keeps things going. If it wasn't for people having wealth as a mindset there wouldn't be rich nations for whiners like Bono to ***** at to give more money to poverty stricken countries. If everyone had success of society as a mindset then all the countries wouldn't be as close as they are today, and the world would be a pretty isolated place because nations will be looking out only for their own nation and could care less about others, and the poverty stricken nations would be even more screwed because there would be no one to help them. So having a mindset of wealth is necessary to the world and hippies like Bono don't realize that. Just remember that a nation with success of society as it's mindset would only be the same as those driven by wealth in a way because each has it's own personal interests in mind but they have different effects on the world. society driven nations will want to spread their influence throughout the world leading to many conflicts and wars, whereas Wealth driven nations will only expand their influence by corporate takeovers and wouldn't lead to any wars and deaths. The Middle East is mainly driven by society and look at all the instability going on there, whereas Western nations are wealth driven and we're stable. So although having a society driven mindset sounds good but there's alot of negative effects that it could have on the world.

You get out of life what you put in. The wealthy shouldn't be judged because they worked hard for what they got and they do give large donations.
Bono tries to make America feel guilty because our wealth driven society allows us to give more than 50% of the worlds donations.
I am a huge fan of his and I do think he has the best intentions but he is a multi, multi millionaire so it's strange for him to tell us that we are a wealth driven society.

Spirituality has answers to this question...I am reminded of a quote by the Thirteenth Century Buddhist Monk, Nichiren Daishonin....
"Emperors and kings have their foundation in the state and bring peace and order to the age; ministers and commoners hold possession of their fields and gardens and supply the needs of the world. But if marauders come from other regions to invade the nation, or if revolt breaks out within the domain and people's lands are seized and plundered, how can there be anything but terror and confusion? If the nation is destroyed and people's homes are wiped out, then where can one flee for safety? If you care anything about your personal security, you should first of all pray for order and tranquillity throughout the four quarters of the land, should you not?"

You answered your own question: you can't.
It's human nature to be driven for wealth and success.
Communism works on paper, but not when applied, all becuase of human nature.
