It's probably been asked before and I think I know the answer, I just want to confirm it. I've been on a diet and excercising reguarly for the past 2 weeks. My period came and is considerably darker this month. Not like black dark, but just darker. I know it's probably because of my diet change and exercisingness, but is this normal? No, I'm not having sex so I'm not prego and no I'm not on meds.

Thanks.

Its perfectly normal. The discharge blood colour depends on several factors. Highly hemolysed blood turns blackish and probably the discharge has turned black because of this.

The darker the colour blood the more iron (haemoglobin). You say you've been on a diet...I wonder if that included a lot of red meat or spinach. High in iron.

Another reason is that as the period ages the blood that is expelled is exposed to air (oxygen) that makes it darker in colour. Which is why at the end of the period it goes from red to brown.
