No, New England isn't a state. It's the area of the country in the far Northeast. The states are Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and maybe Connecticut.

New England is a region not a state. A State of the US is defined by a state constitution and acceptance into the United Federation of States. (not to be confused with other definitions of the word state....state of being, state of mind, state of matter...so on so forth)
New England is the term used to describe the states in the NorthEastern are of the US which were fist settled by England....or later controlled by England. Like Massachusettes, Vermont, New Hampshire....you know the upper East Uppy rich folk land :P

NO. Im also from "new england". The term new england refers to a number of states. Starting with Conn and on up to Mass, New Hampshire, Rhode ISland Vermont, and Maine. These were the first states that the people from england settled so they termed it "the new england"

I can't believe you are serious. No, New England is not a state. If your friend says he's from there, it's not different that me saying I'm originally from the Midwest (which I am - but more specifically, Michigan). It doesn't mean it is a state. Oh, brother.
