I had my period for 17 days. I ended 11 days ago and now I have it again. I never had this. I normally had my period for about 6 days. Is that normal? If not then what should I do?

My menarche was last September. I don't take any meds. I was 11 and now im 12. I don't usually have many cramps but I sleep ALOT. If any cramps they are minor. Im kinda freaked about what happened. 17 days of a period seemed a bit abnormal.

When was your menarche[the first time you started bleeding in your life?] Such irregularities are common at the extremes of reproductive age[ teenagers and women going to menopause] Usually the cause is hormonal imbalance and there is little to worry about. It can be corrected with the birth control pills as it is answered already, but you need to be checked that you don't have other serious problem warranting immediate attention. You might feel dizzy and weak because of the amount of blood you are losing.
Don't worry but go to your family physician.

Your cycle may not be regulated. It could be an underlying problem. I have a cousin who will not have a cycle for 6 months, and when she does, it stays for about 2 months. You need to tell your gynecologist about that, you may need birth control pills to get regulated. They may also check for fibroids. These are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that grow in the uterus and make periods longer and more painful. They aren't anything to be scared of. Call your doctor and make an appointment.

no. its not noramal to have a 17 day period but such things occur due to hormonal imbalances in the beginning. it may or may not be a major problem but u need to see ur doc. take loads or iron rich diet as the tiredness and sleepiness is maybe due to lack of blood. take apples, green veggies in ur diet. ur doc may put u on hormones for a while. i suffered through the same problem and got treated after 2 yrs.
take care honey.

No way! Your menstruation cycle should only last from 3-7 days. Go to the doctor. I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was twelve, and they helped me a lot.

If you're taking any medications like birth control or anything else, it's a possibility. If you're just starting your period for like the 1st or 2nd time ever, it's a definite possibility. You should go to your doctor just to be safe. I doubt it's anything serious, but it's extremely important that you get it checked out.

Go see a doctor honey, it's not normal, but don't be scared, because it's probably not harmful either! Your system is probably just not regular. I know a girl just like you, and she had to go on the pill just to regulate her periods. Just go see the doc and let them check it out for you.
