S-Video cable is just for video, it will not transfer audio.

Firewire transfers both video/audio together. Firewire actually transfers the actual digital code from your tape to your computer.

If you do not wish to purchase another cable (if you have no other option, like a dv cable) then you will need either a capture card on the computer you wish to load it to, or else you will need a converter box that will send a seperate signal to the computer via usb or firewire. If you do not own one, it can be expensive. Buying a different cable (if possible) is usually the better solution, unless you have use for the converter with other items.

Do you have a video Capture card. Most video cards that have the S-Video it's an out port to send video from computer to tv etc.. I believe the handycam had a USB connection (I could be wrong) but it was very slow for USB really isn't fast enough for video. You really need a capture card like the ones at http://www.haupauge.com/ they are some of the best.

Best done with a firewire if you have a port on your puter.
