I guess my question might be, what would be different on a date than what you might ordinarily do together. Friends go to dinner, shows, concerts..or what ever. Or maybe you haven't..in which case, how is he your best friend?

So what is going to happen differently? The fact that it's a date means it now has to be romantic? Do you expect an overnight date? Bottom line is, if you don't have those romantic feelings for him, make it very clear that you will be happy to go out as friends...but that's as far as it will go. It will end up his choice if he can still hang around and respect your wishes and the friendship. When one-sided feelings crop up in male/female friendships, it's best to address them right away and leave no doubt. One little comment like, I don't know or maybe someday, will open the door to hope and the feelings will become a problem.

If you chose to try a relationship, then usually the friendship will not survive if the relationship dies. Don't go there unless you are truly interested in this person as a partner in a relationship. If he's your best friend, you should already know much about him and it shouldn't be difficult to get in touch with your own feelings. Don't do it because you think you owe him a fair chance.

truely speaking i had the same problem and our friendship broke but i understood my mistake. DO YOU want to go out with him. DO YOUlike him. just for a moment forget that he is your best friend then willYOUlike to go out with him. think abt it and then decide..

yes. I will still go out with him/her. However, I will be frank with him/her if I only want him/her as a friend only.
