I am definitely down with all of the American Hero answers, 'cause that probably is the best, but don't forget the theme to Perfect Strangers. "Sometimes the world looks perfect...nothing to rearrange. Sometimes you get the feeling (?) that you need some kind of change. No matter what the odds are this time, nothing's gonna stand in my way. There's a dream in my heart, like a long lost friend (?), something something some-thing, something something else...Standing TALL, on the wings of my dreams. Rise and FALL, on the wings of my dreams......It's my life and my dream, Nothing's gonna stop me now."
That's not the whole thing and I can't remember it all but I'm at work and there's music playing in the background, I can't think straight. Anyway, that's a classic.
Actually, even better;
Makin' your way in the world today takes everything you've got
Takin' a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you wanna go
Where everybody knows you're name
And they're always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see your troubles are all the same
You wanna go where everybody knows your name
(piano ending)ba, da da da da DA DA, bum ba, da da da da DA DA, ba-ding!
What a great show Cheers was, and still is.
It's a shame shows today don't have theme songs like that. Most are instrumental if there even is a song.

It would be "The Prisoner". It actually was an instrumental, but Iron Maiden did a tribute song called "The Prisoner" years later:
Iron Maiden - The Prisoner
===================
Smith/Harris
On the run kill to eat
You're starving now you're dead on your feet
Going all the way nature's beast
Do what I want as I please
Run fight to breathe it's tough
Now you see me now you don't
Break the walls I'm coming out
Not a prisoner I'm a free man
And my blood is my own now
Don't care where the past was
I know where I'm going ... out
If you kill me it's self defence
If I kill you then I call it vengeance
Spit in your eye I will defy
You'll be afraid when I call out your name
I'm not a number I'm a free man
I'll live my life how I want to
You'd better scratch me from your black book
Cos I'll run rings round you

I know its an older one, but really liked the theme song to "The Greatest American Hero."
I know that it was a little bit sappy, but it was a very good fit for the show and its opening credits.
The song was "Believe It or Not" by Joey Scarbury. It was a one-hit-wonder that did rather well on the American Top 40 pop charts.
If you recall who was listed as the star of the show, I have often jokingly referred to this song as "The William Katt Overture."

The Greatest American Hero...starring William Catt (i think how his last name is spelled) I think the song was Believe It Or Not...Believe it or not I'm walking on air, never thought I could feel so free, I'm flying away on a wing and a prayer, who could it be? believe it or not it's just me....that's all I remember. It's from the 80's but that song has stuck in my head all these years and it still cheers me up to this day when I'm down.

Great American Hero by Tv Theme
Theme from the "Greatest American Hero" (Believe it or Not) - Joey Scarbury
Look at what's happened to me
I can't believe it myself
Suddenly I'm on top of the world
Shoulda been somebody else
CHORUS:
Believe it or not I'm walking on air
I never thought I could feel so free
Flying away on a wing and a prayer
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me
Just like the light of a new day
It hit me from out of the blue
Breaking me out of the spell I was in
Making all of my wishes come true
CHORUS
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me

M.A.S.H.--Suicide is painless
Lyrics to the song 'Suicide is Painless'
Through early morning fog I see
visions of the things to be
the pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see...
[REFRAIN]:
that suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
I try to find a way to make
all our little joys relate
without that ever-present hate
but now I know that it's too late, and...
[REFRAIN]
The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
so this is all I have to say.
[REFRAIN]
The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
and to another give my seat
for that's the only painless feat.
[REFRAIN]
The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...
[REFRAIN]
A brave man once requested me
to answer questions that are key
is it to be or not to be
and I replied 'oh why ask me?'
[REFRAIN]
'Cause suicide is painless
it brings on many changes
and I can take or leave it if I please.
...and you can do the same thing if you please.
