Our current understanding dictates that your question is non-sensical. The universe is the outermost "thing" so it's expanding and that's it. It's not expanding "into" anything else.
I know, it's mind-bending and frustrating. I don't like it either.
If it makes you feel better, you could say that the universe is empty and infinite, and it's only the matter within it that is expanding (or flying outwards) from wherever the big bang happened. Not exactly the way the theory works, but it is more tangible to our animal brains.

The universe is expanding outward from a central point where the big bang occured. Presumably all matter was thrown out away from this central point several billion years ago. With this in mind, how are some objects moving towards each other? You would think that being tossed out from a central point would insure that objects would continue to move away from each other...unless the object took a turn after being tossed.

"The Void"
A place stated in mathematics where there is absolutely missing dimension, space is the Universe is the dimension.. remember that. It is the mystery of astronomy, which states that the Big Bang is the origin of all matter, all space, all time and all everything.
And, also it is accepted by some astronomers that the Universe will NEVER stop expanding sue to the presence of an invisible force called "dark matter" which is detected through certain behaviours of objects in space.

Time and space: neither can exist without the other, therefore, in any place where the combination of both is not possible or has not happened is nothingness, defined as non existent (and no, nothingness is not a thing!), hence wherever time and space do combine, there is existence there, the universe (if indeed it is expanding) is expanding out of itself not into something else or replacing something else.
and no, i do not recommend you traveling to the end of the universe to find out if I'm right!

My opinion through many meditative thoughts:
I believe our universe expands to a point I call 'the void'. A point having the geometric meaning of no volume, dimensionless.
I believe what you are considering. Our universe is what we can view, touch and explain through science we have developed. Space on the other hand is an infinitely dimensional medium, in which our universe is expanding to.

Not surprisingly, quite a few alternate universes have been asking that very question for some time now. This so-call "urban universe spraw" has caused nothing short of arngst amongst our more contained super-dimensional neighbors, many noting the crass irresponsibility of how our unverise is simply expanding without any forthough or planning. Notes one deligate of the 34 to 45th order Calabi-Yau manifold D-brane universe, "I wish these a-holes would just up and collapse on themselves already. Look at who they vote for, for crying out loud."

I think your a bit mixed up there, well actually the CMB mass is growing but the universe is infinite, as you know hemisphere is two parts to a globe and a semisphere is the whole globe, there is a massive ball or explosion that is still hurdling out at great speeds, this is the semi-universe a massive expanse of which galaxies act like cells made of atoms of stars that produce inside a massive explosion expanse, the semi-universe mass as the CMB (Cosmic Microwave Backgound) is expanding into the full-universe, the full universe is apart of a vast amount of semi-universes (a multiverse complex) which is theoretically possible) although light takes time to reach us so we're looking at the past of the universe.
People get mixed up with the universe and the full-universe, a universe is a complex range of astronomical objects (a plection [plex] of objects in a group).
The full-universe is an extension called the multiverse, a series of universes (semi-universes) all these universes are all expanding into the space-universe (full-universe) this space is infinite even if it consists of millions of multiverses it is infinite of dark space.
Although dimensionally the universe is flat to the 5th dimension this makes it to be called a brane and every brane that is stacked is the infinite term of space-universe (full-universe) full of space and nothingness and multiverses that have semi-universes in them, these branes are all parell to our own and these are consisted in a space that seperates them that when a black hole rips space black holes lead to that space between (all theoretical). The space between is called the bulk and the void as it is a space timeless zone of which the universe used to be nothingness, in 3D the space would be so small you wouldn't realise, in 4D it creates a whole in the 3D brane thus created by heavy weight objects, ie, things that a so heavy hold down spacetime forming gravity (pockets) if it is too weightful, ie, star collapse a black hole will form causing a gravity increase into the void (5D bulk space).
As doing so 5D bulk-space known as void is time-less, space-less and even place-less to that universe possible is not possible and impossible is possible this friction caused dimensions to create our brane, our universe, matter was created in it by dimensional warp and this created matter, the big bang was created in the first semi-universe (ours to record) and this expanding into the space-universe (full-universe) the infinite along with all the other the universes in this multiverse in this main universe. Thus creating an expansion that expands and expands.

It cannot be expanding at that rate, as light is the fastest thing there is and that is only 186000 miles per second, however, our galaxy alone is a vast place some 100000 light years across and that is only one of millions so if we were expanding at 1 million miles per second then it's prety much "small beer"

It should eventually stop. Some scientists believe that the universe slows down ever so slightly every year. One day the universe will come to a stop and start to go in reverse. Then it will continually get smaller until its all one mass pushing into itself. This will cause a massive explosion starting the whole process again. Fun stuff.

the belief (it's not proved yet) is that space and time are created by mass. that means any where that no mass exists, no time and no place also exists. so by expanding the world and spreading the mass, new places and time are created. and the world should be infinitely big. so there is no end like the numbers which never end
