I own a 1992 Mitsubishi Eterna, v6 auto. No matter what gear you shift it into, the car doesnt move, no abnormal sounds or anything. None of the gears engage. What could it be? torque converter?

I bet you that your car has what most macanics call a throw away transmission a lot of cars have them I had a Sunbird Notchback a few years ago and the transmission poped on me on the highway it was like I was driving the engine sounded ok but a lose of power to a dead stop but I could rev the motor and nothing I had it towed home and a second hand transmission put in it and sold it as fast as I could it ran for 2 days after that before that transmission went out I do not know if this stoy gives you a idea wheree to look but it sure ticked me off when it happened to me I was 500 miles from home too

None of the gears engage
You Definitely Have A Transmission Problem
Sounds Like Its The LINKAGE (A Common Problem)
That Might Not Cost Very Much

As a long time Chrysler mechanic and Chrysler has a long affiliation with Mitsubishi and these are generally very reliable vehicles. However anything can and does break down eventually. You need to take it to a good shop and have it checked out by a well qualified mechanic so as to get it repaired properly. As to your question it most certainly could be a torque converter or linkage problem,a valve body problem,or any number of things so rather than speculate here you need to just go have it checked out and be sure of the problem. Good luck.

If the vehicle has set for a lengthy time period the brakes can stick and not in any respect launch. is this an computerized or guide. Its also achievable that an computerized transmission sensor isn't taking it out of Park, you ought to have a mechanic verify it previous to flow. so a procedures as sticking brakes, its achievable to attempt pushing the vehicle backward and forward (would favor some help the following) to get them to disengage.

First check to make sure your parking brake is off.
Next if you have an automatic check your fluid level.
Your linkage may be the problem or it could be your transmission if fried. Good luck on that one.

You said that it is an automatic? Check the transmission fluid level. When it gets too low, you lose the ability to shift.

Sounds like your transmission is out, costly repair, you're looking at at lease $800 on the cheap end.
