Budget and time restraints. They could not make a robot that takes 3 months to make because if the original is desstroyed then production is on hold for 3 months. Also they cant make a million dollar robot. They might have had to cut corners for the budget and they cut away from the quality of Twiki.

Twiki was cute, and the voice by Mel Blanc was perfect.
With all the women walking around in skin tight lycra outfits, I'm pretty sure 'robot designers' of the 25th century had other things on their minds.
