we need to take care of poverty in our backyard before we take care of poverty next door.

What right do we have to instill western values of wealth and poverty on the Africans? Africa and African needs are different, some are very basic and what can be construed as basic human rights.
The word poverty has to be defined - I will always be poor in comparison to Bono (the real one) but am very wealthy compared to most Africans. Theoretically the only way to eradicate poverty in it's truest definition is if we take all the money from everyone and give it equally to everyone, until one person spends something or someone dies ir is born poverty will cease to exist, everyone will be as wealthy and as poor as everyone else.
Who says who is under the poverty line and who is not? A teen ager without his play station or latest sport shoe, might think he should be included.

The question is too simplistic and subjective. Its all about quality of life rather than money in the bank.

Fishball, in answer to your statement, yes Bono maybe ideallistic, however he is in the position to help, and he has done a great deal, if we help one person along the way then this is of benefit to somebody.......

I would like to see everybody donate £1 of their wages every week, netting a total of 15 mill per week, and other wealthy countries do the same....maybe then we could eradicate a lot of the poverty, most put when there is an appeal then never donate until the next on....and what is a pound to us...

Before people say charity begins at hom we know not what poverty is...I am not a do gooder just someone concerned for little kids family's not knowing when they will next eat...£1 isn't even half a pint......................................£1 will feed a family

You are not the real Bono, and I wonder what gives you the right to use his name.
I know him from charity work we did together in Dublin, and have answered HIS question here already.

And with regards to the Africans: The answer is NO. It is not possible to save all those people, as most of the damage to them is done by themselves.
The only way to save Africa and the Africans would be for them to take control of their own lives and affairs, without any western interference (positive or negative).

Firstly to Magic Gatherer. I dont mean to put a spanner in the works but it was our ancestors who put a large amount of the world in this position. Mainly the europians and great britain. Im scottish. My ancestors played their part. Slavery. Exploitation of natural recources. Upsetting the ecosystem, cutting down rainforests. ARGGGGHHHHH. We are STILL creating poverty. How the F**K do we solve it if we are STILL part of the problem. Help each other. Stop shooting. Talk and debate. Greedy people dont want to help. Angry people dont stop shooting. People who are wrong dont stop to listen. I wish we had an idealistic world. I see things in black and white but there is none. Only Grey. NO RIGHT OR WRONG. Some people dont want this poverty to stop as it keeps them on top. I hope and prey to anyones god that someday we will be a peacefull planet. But none of you will see it. Neither will MANY generations. All the africans will be dead. Their childrens children will be dead. But I hope someday that a generation of children (Skrew nationallity) will see it. I dont belive it tho........ Thank you thank you. VOTE MUNKY. HAR hAR aRharararahahahar. Maybe if we start laughing things will get better. F**K it.

Bono is too idealistic with good and noble intention... but poverty like prostitution cannot never be eradicated, cannot be history. All governments can do and have done in many parts of the world is to reduce and continue to reduce the level of poverty in their countries.

It would be possible in the sense of the money available in the world but there are many greedy people out there who want as much money for themselves as possible and not thinking about those who need it most.

If it was a perfect world then yeah.... but were not living in that perfect world are we!!!

Its sad!!

what makes you think we africans cant save ourselves?
we just need to get rid of evil dictators and political injustice before we can have true freedom. we dont need your money, we need political revolution and fair trade.
