In B.C. Canada there are a few stages to getting your license.
When you turn 16 with parental consent you can write a test and recieve your "L" license. There are alot of restrictions on it.
After a time you can take a road test to receive your "N" license. There are quite a few restrictions there too. After close to 2 yrs you can take another road test and get your full priviledge license.
That is a class 5 license.

In the US, you can get a regular driver's license in most states when you're 16. Before that, you can only get a learner's permit.
