The pitch of someone's voice is determined by how fast the vocal chords vibrate. That is in turn dependent on the length of the chords and the tension on the chords.

In real world terms that means that men tend to have deeper voices because their vocal chords are longer.

It also means that tall people tend to have deeper voices because the vocal chords are longer.

It also means that people don't have permanent voices. Voices continue to get deeper as people age because the material loses its elasticity over time and as a result the chords vibrate more slowly.

what i know is that there right on your Adam's apple is a point where it sticks out the most. if you touch that you can feel how close or far apart the two points are (it is the same bone) this determines the natural resonance of your voice. The closer the deeper.
